The School of Graduate Studies (Uniport) was established in October, 1980 from the University Of Port Harcourt which was itself established in 1972. It is located at Choba-Oroworukwo in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria.
The School of Graduate Studies is the first Federal University in Rivers State and the first state-owned State University in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The motto of the University is “For Enlightenment and Self Reliance”. The University has a staff strength of about 1,800 and a student population of over 28,000. The language of instruction in the institution is English.
